RFA decision good news for Tasmania’s renewable forestry sector

“Today’s outcome is good news for Tasmanian jobs, the environment, and the Tasmanian community,” TFPA CEO Nick Steel said today.

“Tasmania’s forest industry is the ultimate renewable, it replants for the future according to a long-term plan; it helps tackle climate change by taking carbon dioxide out of the air and storing it (a fact acknowledged by the IPCC); and it supports more than 5,700 direct and indirect jobs in our state.

“Regional Forest Agreements were set up to provide an appropriate balance between the environment and jobs and to provide certainty to all parties, and the public can now be reassured about this balance by today’s decision.”
